Does it require a license from DBPR?

Bottom line

DBPR SECRETARY Ken Lawson reminds consumers to always use caution when using online classifieds websites such as craigslist to hire professionals for services that require state licensure.  Protect yourself from becoming victim to online unlicensed activity scams, that’s the bottom line.

Everybody must get stoned?

With more of our clients choosing quartz counter tops, I thought I would go through the differences with you:

 NATURAL OR NOT?

Both countertop materials are made of natural product.

Granite: 100% natural. It is literally sliced from quarries, cut to size, and honed down until smooth.

Quartz: 97% natural.  7% of color pigments and polymer resins. The resins bind the particles together.

 COST:

Granite: At around $60 per square foot, but price rise exponentially from there.

Quartz: Starting at $67 to $93 per square foot, installed. It can be similar to granite as far as bevel edged backsplash, and a cut-out made for a double-bowl sink.

 MAINTENANCE:

Stone, whether natural or engineered, seems like it should be maintenance-free.  Not so.  Both materials require maintenance, with granite requiring more than quartz:

Quartz does not need initial or continued sealing.

Granite upon installation, and then again on a regular basis needs to be sealed.

 DURABILITY:

Quartz: Engineered stone has the flaws engineered out. You will NOT find invisible characters just waiting to crack open someday, as you would with a slab of granite.

Granite: A natural slab of granite, for all its beauty, has flaws and imperfections that homeowners either love, accept, or hate.  Granite stains if subjected to certain elements.

 RECOMMENDATION:

QUARTZ:  This material is designed especially for rigorous kitchen conditions.  It also, uses a lot less waste material rather than granite.
